The second prompt I was asked was "Who should receive more pay? A police officer, nurse, or teacher." Practice speaking by giving yourself random prompts and give yourself only a couple of seconds to register your thoughts and just free speak. I went on and on about my made up grandpa and got a perfect score. I remember that I was asked "Are younger doctors or older doctors more knowledgeable?" I said older doctors and made up an example about my grandfather who is a doctor and is very wise blah blah. You can have really crappy reasons but as long as you speak with confidence and speak without long pauses, you'll get a high score. Speak with confidence, enunciate, have intonation and you'll be fine. But other than that, I just listened because I'm prone to lose details when I'm scribbling down sentences. I would take notes on the order of the steps and what happens in each. The things that I did take notes on was when the lecturer talks about a process. This may or may not work for you because every one is different. I will occasionally write down a few words here and there, but my page stays blank for the most part. My strategy is to not take notes but to instead focus intensely on the lecture. Use like, umm, and other vocal pauses because they are natural. My answers to the prompts were crap, but I enunciated, had intonation, and tried to speak without any huge breaks. Lastly, speak with confidence!!!! This is so important. If you need to fill up the extra time, you can always use this method: "And my best friend Bob also likes basketball, and because he's my best friend and has a lot of influence on me, I like basketball." Literally just mention your friend or family member to get an extra couple of sentences in. It relieves my stress from university and I can have a fun time with my friends." You do NOT need a philosophical reason for your answers. You can literally talk like this: "I like to play basketball. As long as you just explain yourself, provide a couple example, are coherent, enunciate, and have intonation, you'll be fine. If what you wrote above works for you, then you should definitely stick with it.įor speaking, your reasons don't matter at all.
Like I said, I don't really like taking notes for the listening section because they don't test you on the nitty gritty details. It may be in a classroom setting in which the professors interact with the students or like an essay. The four other lectures are basically on some sort of topic pertaining to biology, geology, history, economics, business, psychology etc. Two lectures are a conversation between a professor/consultant/etc and university student - the student will have a problem and the professor/consultant will try to help the student. I like to reallyyy focus on the listening lecture instead of taking notes. My suggestion is that you try the listening section without writing notes or maybe taking less notes than you normally do. In the beginning, I was so worked up with trying to catch every single detail and writing all that down, which was obviously not a good idea. I'm sure every one has their own tricks that work for them, so I have to say that you're going to have to find a way that works the best for you. As for listening notes, I barely took notes.
